Theodore Parish
The 1st generation of the Parish family to exist in America began with Theodore Parish. He married Mamie Brown and had 8 children. Nine children lived into adulthood while 1 child Theodora died as an infant. Theodore Parish was born March 3, 1893 and died 19??. He is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Millville NJ. The original home of the Parish's was at Metelyne Greece. While still in his teens Theodoros Vasilo Asvestas (Theodore Parish) migrated to the New World. It was rumored within the family that this migration to America was more of a necessity then otherwise. Theodore it is said had to leave his homeland of Greece rather abruptly and it was also rumored that he did not take the time to purchase a ticket on the ship but rather become a stowaway. These rumors remain unfounded since we have a copy of his registration form and the ships passenger log to prove otherwise. Upon his arrival in New York Theodore found that there was an abundance of prejudice against foreign born individuals and thus quickly changed his name to "Parish" which happened to be that of a friend he had meet upon his arrival.
The Vasilefs Constantinos From New York, Theodore made his way southward to southern New Jersey which was to become his lifelong home.
Theodore [1] and Mamie [2] had eight children; Martha [3], Mary [4], Joseph [5], Rebecca [6], Thomas [7], Irene [8], Christina [9] and Theodora [10]. All children reached adulthood except Theodora [10].
